Wilma Lynn Gavel

Wilma Lynn Gavel, 70, died Septemberb 26, 2022, at her home in Stanley NC.  She was born June 24, 1952, in Macon, Georgia, the daughter of Hilbert Xavier Gavel (born in Sanford, ME) and Wilma Ruth (Giddens) Gavel (born in Lakewood, FL).

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her sisters Jean Cox, Robin Lund, and Polly Nipper and her brother Raymond Gavel.  She is survived by her brothers Hib Gavel (Warner Robins, GA), Alan Gavel (Tampa, FL), Frank Gavel (Chesapeake Beach, MD) and John Gavel (Blairsville, GA), many nieces and nephews.

Lynn graduated from A. L. Miller High School, Class of 1970, completed multiple courses in programming and accounting at Dekalb Tech in Clarkston, GA in the late 1970’s, in 1999 earned an Associate in Information Technology at the Insurance Institute of America and in 2004 gained A+ Certification.

“I would rather die of passion than of boredom.” – Vincent van Gogh

Lynn lived her life with passion.

She felt blessed to have had an over 40-year career in Information Technology because she was good at it and enjoyed the challenges.  She was proud to be a part of the “Y2K bug” fix (the disaster that never happened!).  Changing from mainframe to PC during the last 12 years of her career, she made friends with fellow employees at OrthoCarolina that sustained her after retirement.

She enjoyed playing guitar, photography, and gardening.  She is saddened that she did not have time to play more golf.

She loves her family and friends and would do anything she could to help someone in need.

I leave life without regret but rather with gratitude.  I no longer have to deal with the daily dumbing down of America while watching this democratic republic slide into a fascist state.

There are no services to be scheduled at this time.

Always enjoyed working with Lynn. She was always a kind and helpful co-worker. Rest peacefully Lynn.

A wonderful coworker who was always willing to help. Will always remember your smile and pleasant attitude. And your excellent IT knowledge helping those like me who were pretty clueless. RIP

She will be greatly missed. I worked with her at Ortho Carolina for a lot of years. She came up stairs and talked to me before she retired. RIP. Lynn.
