William "Randy" McCoig, a cherished soul who touched the lives of many, departed this world on December 21, 2025, in the comfort of his own home. Born on July 15, 1952, in Gaston County, he was the beloved son of the late Carl McCoig and Bradine Wooten McCoig. With each passing year, Randy embraced life with a zest that was mirrored in the warm glow of his porch, where he spent countless hours reflecting on the beauty of the world around him.
A retiree who found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, Randy was a man of many passions. The roar of Harley Davidson motorcycles was music to his ears; once a spirited rider, he relished the freedom of the open road. In addition to his love for motorcycles, he carried within him the rhythmic pulse of music, having spent many evenings strumming his bass guitar, bringing melodies to life that resonated through the hearts of those fortunate enough to hear him play.
Randy’s green thumb blossomed in his cherished garden. His love for yard work was like a canvas upon which he painted moments of laughter, especially during competitive games of horseshoes that resonated with the laughter of loved ones gathered around him.
He leaves behind a vibrant legacy, surviving in the love of his children: Melissa Broome (Tim), Michael McCoig (Crystal), and Jamie McCoig (Jennifer). His spirit lives on in his grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his heart; Ashley Broome, Lucas Broome, Colton Broome, Klorissa Kopka (Zack), and Chelsea Hawkins (Michael). And as a great-grandfather, Randy was blessed with the joy brought by Alex, Elizabeth, Kaiden, Aubrey, Emily, and Harmony—his pride and joy.
Though he is preceded in death by his brothers, Larry McCoig and Dean McCoig, as well as his beloved pets, Peanut, Petey and Oreo. Randy leaves an enduring bond with his surviving brothers Johnny McCoig (Sue) and Jerry McCoig, woven tightly with memories and love. At his side through the ups and downs was his loyal pet, Whiskey, whose presence mirrored the companionship and affection Randy offered to all.
Family and friends are invited to honor Randy's life during a visitation on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service officiated by Minister Michael Hawkins at 6:00 PM at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC. As we gather to remember a life filled with laughter, music, and love, may we find solace in the memories we share and the legacy he leaves behind.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tri-County Animal Rescue, 3326 Al Hager Ln, Iron Station, NC 28080.
