William Henry Enloe, affectionately known as “Speedy” and “Will,” of Hickory, North Carolina, will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and true enthusiast of all things automotive and outdoors. His life was defined by his love for his family, his passion for cars, and his appreciation for the simple moments spent with those closest to him.
William was employed with Corning and took great pride in the things he loved, whether turning a wrench in the garage, building model cars, or enjoying the thrill of drag racing. A lifelong car enthusiast, he spent many nights with friends attending gasser events throughout the Southeast and countless days enjoying car shows and NASCAR races alongside his son, Chandler. He especially enjoyed working on his beloved 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass and was always ready to take on a mechanical project or tinker with another one of his treasured automotive toys.
Beyond his love of cars, William had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and exploring nature, especially when those adventures included time with his son. Some of his favorite moments were found in the quiet beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway, taking scenic drives with his wife, Judith, and stopping along the way to enjoy a picnic with his family and take in the breathtaking views. Whether at home or in the great outdoors, William cherished sitting beside a fire, surrounded by friends and family, sharing conversation, laughter, and the kind of memories that last a lifetime.
On October 27, 2016, William married the love of his life, Judith. He was immensely proud of his son, Chandler, and treasured the role he held as a husband and father. His love for his family was evident in the time he spent with them, the experiences they shared, and the memories they created together. He also held a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, Cutesie.
William was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Enloe; his father, Commodore Enloe; his brother, Terry Enloe; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Judith Smith; his son, Chandler Settlemyre; his stepson, Randall Ford; his niece, Amelia Enloe; his mother-in-law, Sandra Smith; his sister-in-law, Carol Smith; his brother-in-law Robbie Smith; his beloved cat, Cutesie; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
William will be remembered for his passion for cars, his love of the outdoors, his devotion to his family, and the many friendships he built along the way. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories made on winding mountain roads, at racetracks and car shows, around campfires, and in the everyday moments shared with loved ones will continue to keep his spirit alive in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
