Wayne Eugene Dowdle

Wayne Eugene Dowdle, born on February 1, 1950, to the late John Thomas Dowdle and Flossie Mae Gilchrist Dowdle, peacefully passed away on October 19, 2025, at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Belmont, NC.

Wayne lived a life rich with passion and dedication to his interests and family. He was an avid sports enthusiast, cherishing the thrill of college basketball and football, particularly as a devoted fan of the Carolina Tarheels. His love for sports extended beyond just cheering; he embraced the camaraderie through playing cards and pool with friends. Wayne also enjoyed the tranquility of golf, relishing the time spent outdoors and perfecting his swing. A lover of movement and rhythm, he could often be found at the beach shag dancing, expressing his joy for life through each step and twirl.

Surviving Wayne is his loving daughter, Crystal Dowdle, who carried forward his spirit, along with his granddog, Roxie, who provided him with companionship and warmth.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is also preceded in death by his cherished wife, Ruby Dowdle, who added immeasurable joy to his life. He is also reunited in spirit with five brothers and four sisters, who will forever hold a special place in his legacy.

Family and friends are invited to honor Wayne’s memory at a Memorial Gathering, which will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Benson Funeral Services, located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. This gathering will provide an opportunity to celebrate Wayne's life and the many moments shared with him.

Wayne Eugene Dowdle will be remembered not only for his interests and passions but also for the love and joy he brought into the lives of those he met. His legacy lives on through his family and friends, whose lives he touched with kindness and affection.
