Starlene Davis

Starlene Davis, was born on February 28, 1954, in Gastonia, North Carolina. Her journey through life, marked by love, dedication, and warmth, came to a peaceful close on April 9, 2026, at Atrium Health Hospital Charlotte. Starlene’s presence was a cherished gift to all who knew her, and her memory will endure in the hearts of her family and friends.

Starlene loved nothing more than gathering with her grandchildren, immersing herself in the lively atmosphere of family celebrations. She was a steadfast presence at every sporting event her grandchildren participated in, displaying unwavering support—even when the sport wasn’t her favorite. This dedication spoke volumes about her enduring love and commitment to family.

She found joy in simple pleasures, delighting in the thrill of treasure hunting amid thrift stores and savoring quiet moments on her back porch. A devoted fan of soap operas, Starlene enjoyed the rhythm of these stories as much as she cherished the stories unfolding around her own family.

Starlene is survived by her beloved son, Larry Davis, and his wife Ella; her daughters, Cissy Green and Duwana Davis, who shares a life with Marcus. Her sisters, Maryann Medford and Robin Medford, carry forward the bond they shared through the years. Starlene’s heart was rich with the love of her numerous grandchildren—Diddie, Willie, Raven, Brezzy, Mallory, Micah, Quan, Jamie, Jeffrey, A.J., Chris, Lauren, and Alisha—and the joy of ten great-grandchildren whose lives she touched deeply. A lifelong special friend, Phyllis Burgess, stood by her side with a friendship that endured time’s tests. Several nieces and nephews also remember Starlene fondly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Aretta Thomas Medford; her sons Scott Davis and Cody “Bubba” Medford; her brother Oliver Medford; and a son-in-law, Edgar “Fatt Catt” Green.

A memorial service celebrating Starlene’s life will be held on April 12, 2026, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Benson Funeral & Cremation, located at 101 Oak Grove Street in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. Family will receive friends following the service. 

Starlene’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and gentle strength. May those who loved her find comfort in the laughter she shared, the lessons she taught, and the enduring imprint of her spirit. Her story is woven into the fabric of her family’s lives, a touching reminder of the beautiful soul she was and always will be.
