Shirley Cowan

Shirley Ann Cowan, 85, of Belmont passed away March 9, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center.  She was born on November 30, 1935 to the late James Small and Pearl Gibson Clark.  She is also preceded in death by her son, Ronald Self; daughter in law, Susie Self; sisters, Alma Homesly and Virginia Helton; and brother Bobby Small.  Shirley loved to dance, liked country music, arts and crafts, baking and enjoyed shopping at Walmart.

Survivors include her sons, Mike Self and wife Becky of Belmont, Joel Self of Belmont, and Terry Self of Belmont; daughter in law, Darlene Self of Belmont; brothers, Joe Small of Stanley and James Arnold Small of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren, Melissa Lowance, Robert Self, Kelly Linder, Joey Gordon, Jennifer Self, Joel Self, Wendy Self, Jessica Self, Lance Self, Brittney George, Faith Self, and Dillon Moore; 21 great grandchildren; and her pet dogs, Honey and Tiny.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. at Spiritual Guidance Church, Mt. Holly with Pastors Joe Small and Tim Small officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
