Sherry Byrd Harrington, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away suddenly on November 10, 2023, at CaroMont Regional Hospital in Gastonia, NC. She was born on July 24, 1963, in McDowell County, NC. Sherry brought love and light into the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
Sherry was a loving and kindhearted individual who touched the hearts of everyone she met. She radiated warmth and compassion wherever she went. Her beautiful demeanor and gentle spirit were admired by all who had the privilege of crossing paths with her. Sherry's capacity to love knew no bounds; she cherished her family and friends unconditionally.
Family was of paramount importance to Sherry. She cherished the time spent with her husband of 30 years, David Harrington. Their bond was a testament to the power of love and partnership. Sherry was a dedicated mother to Ashley Scheidegger, David Harrington and Kristi Harrington. She found immense joy in nurturing and guiding her children throughout their lives. Sherry had a special place in her heart for her sister Peggy Reed ( Randy, Tammy, Kandy) and brother Jack Byrd Jr. (Stacie, Jackie, Tim), whose company brought much happiness into her life.
Being a grandmother brought Sherry immeasurable joy. Caroline, Jordan, and Ronin held a special place in her heart, and their laughter filled her soul with happiness. Sherry's love for them knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment shared with her precious grandchildren. She also loved her pet children the same, Harry and Missy.
Sherry had a passion for decorating that was unrivaled. She possessed an artistic flair that shone through in every holiday season, but it was during Christmas that her creativity truly flourished. The sparkle in her eyes as she adorned her home with lights and ornaments was contagious. Sherry loved the Christmas holiday season not only for its beauty but also for the opportunity it offered to create cherished memories with her loved ones.
Beyond her passion for decorating, Sherry was an avid shopper. She possessed a keen eye for finding treasures and took pleasure in the thrill of discovering something special. Whether it was a unique piece of clothing or a meaningful gift for a loved one, Sherry delighted in the art of shopping.
Sherry's love extended beyond her immediate family. She had a deep connection with her parents, Jack Byrd Sr and Margie Allison Byrd, and her brother Ronnie Byrd (Ron, Tony, Andy). Among her closest confidantes was her best friend and cousin Betty "Tiny" Mayberry, whose companionship brought immense joy and comfort into Sherry's life.
The memories of Sherry will forever be treasured by her surviving family members and friends. Her loving presence will continue to radiate through the lives of those who were lucky enough to have known her. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by sister-in-law Terri Gettings, brother-in-law Daryl Harrington and wife Nimfa, Lamar Conner, Ben Scheidegger, Teresa Walters Gillespie, Diane Thomas, and numerous nieces and nephews who hold cherished memories of their time with Sherry.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on November 18, 2023, at Benson Funeral & Cremation located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. The service will begin at 4:00 PM to honor the beautiful life that Sherry lived. Visitation will be one hour prior beginning at 3:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering the remarkable woman who touched their lives so deeply.
Sherry Byrd Harrington's legacy will forever live on through the memories she leaves behind. May we find solace in knowing that she is now at peace, watching over us with the same love and warmth that she exuded during her time here on Earth. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
