Robin Barefoot Hussey

Robin Barefoot Hussey passed away on Dec 16, 2023.

Born to the late William C. and Irene D. Barefoot in Charlotte, NC on May 5, 1958. Robin graduated from
East Mecklenburg High School, and later NC State University with a BS in Recreational Resources
Management. She married Brian Hussey on Nov 21, 1981, and soon embarked on a career in Day Care,
working as a teacher, assistant Director, and Director with several of the child development schools in
Charlotte. Robin loved her day care “children” and many parents and children came back to visit years
later to show appreciation. Robin had a deep faith in God and was confirmed by her uncle Leslie
Frerking, (the founder and original pastor of Ascension Lutheran Church in Charlotte). Robin later
became a member of A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed worship and assisted the
choir by playing a Guitar in accompaniment. Robin was affectionally know to all as the “Guitar Lady”
after a youngster with wide eyes said to her mother, "hey mom look there goes the Guitar Lady!" Robin
was also very proud of her work on the search committee that interviewed and recommended Pastor
Molly Kuekes, the current pastor of AMF. Robin enjoyed travel and one of her favorite vacation spots
was Hilton Head Island where she worked as a lifeguard one summer in college, and later it became a
favorite vacation spot. Robin also like to cruise with Royal Caribbean and could be found unintentionally
terrorizing many of the guests and crew alike while driving a mobility scooter all over the ship. Dogs
have always been a big part of Robin’s life and she dearly loved all her furry children. Robin had many
lifelong friends and treasured her relationships with them all.

Robin’s parents and her brothers Bill Barefoot, and Richard Barefoot precede her in death. She is survived by Brian Hussey, and her “children” Beau and Laci, along with her brother Paul Barefoot, and his daughter Alia, Richard’s wife Ann and their
children Bradford, Rich, and Ashley, Bill’s wife Mickey Key, and many beloved Cousins.

 A Memorial service will be held at A Mighty Fortress Lutheran Church,  8200 McClure Cir, Charlotte, NC 28216, on Jan 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. A reception will
follow immediately in the fellowship hall.
