Reiner L.C. Van Rossum

June 9, 1935 — March 3, 2019

Reiner L. C. Van Rossum passed away on March 3, 2019, peacefully at home after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Reiner grew up in The Hague where his father ran a grocery store. He and his family endured the German occupation of The Netherlands and the stories he shared with family and friends of that period of his life will forever live in our memories. He vividly recalled the hardships of those times especially the Dutch Hunger Winter. He and his family immigrated to the United States in 1952 and lived for many years in New Jersey.

He met and married his wife Christine Berg in New Hampshire; together they traveled back to the Netherlands several times enabling him to remain connected to loved ones.  A lover of books, Reiner operated the Book Mill stores in Concord, New Hampshire, and in Matthews and Shelby, North Carolina.  Reiner also loved Bridge and the wonderful people that he interacted with as he traveled to countless games. He was a much sought after Bridge partner and was sadly missed as his illness progressed.

Christine knows that Reiner would not want you to mourn him but rather celebrate his love of life, his wit, his humor, and the courage with which he faced Parkinson's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

There will be a celebration of his life at:

God Saw You

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.
