Peggy Panther Ewing, a cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at the age of 85. Born in Jackson County, North Carolina, on July 16, 1940, Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Tomie H. Panther and Sara Gass Panther.
A devoted longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Belmont, Peggy was well-known for her commitment to teaching Sunday School, preschool, and nursery instilling the values of faith and community in the hearts of many. Her gentle spirit, paired with her dedication to service, made her a beloved figure within her church and beyond.
Peggy's life was rich with passions and interests that brought joy not only to herself but to those around her. She enjoyed the art of sewing and cooking, often sharing her culinary creations with family and friends. Peggy had a love for the mountains, often taking trips to enjoy their beauty. Shopping brought her excitement, as did painting, particularly oil paintings which allowed her to express her creativity and capture the essence of her surroundings.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Cathy McCall (Boyd) of Belmont, NC; granddaughter, Allison McCall; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Jones, Victoria Franckewitz, Nevaeh Shane Ledford, and Virginia Phannareth. She also leaves behind her sister, Nola "Jo" Vaughn, who will continue to honor her memory.
In addition to her parents, Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Bob" Ewing, and a granddaughter, Christy McCall.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. The visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev. Robert Baker. A private graveside service will be held by the family at a later date.
Peggy Panther Ewing's legacy lives on through her loving family and the many lives she touched with her kindness, teaching, and unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew her.
