Patrick Day Braddy

May 15, 1943 — November 4, 2023

Cramerton, NC

Patrick Day Braddy of Cramerton , NC passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023.

He leaves a loving family, Cynthia Kern Braddy, wife of 52 years, son, Dr. Whitney Braddy and fiancée Dr. Elise Hiltbold of New Orleans, LA, daughter Leslie Payne, husband Derek; three grandchildren, Charles, Adelaide, and Azalea Payne of Wake Forest, NC.

Pat lived a happy, accomplished life. He is the son of Edgar N. Braddy and Annie Laurie Day Braddy. He grew up in Aiken, South Carolina and graduated from Clemson University in textile chemistry.

He began his career in the dye house visually color matching dyes on fabrics. He soon used this expertise to move into digital analysis of dyed fabrics with spectrophotometers and became an expert in the field of color matching, not only in textiles, but also plastics, food, and other applications. He worked with other measurement devices to analyze product web in real time, not just for color consistency, but also for material flaws, and in plastics, thickness monitoring.

He traveled the world and shared his knowledge with industry organizations through events such as the World Textile Shows, trade shows, seminars, and trade publications.

Pat always had a love of sports cars that began with an MGB and grew from there to many others; his favorite being a 1959 Austin Healy, BRG of course. He was a HAM radio operator, sailor, SCUBA diver; he enjoyed cooking on the grill, a good cigar, lively conversations and his mother’s pound cake. His laugh was contagious and lit up the room.

He is sorely missed, but leaves a family grateful for his love, dedication and role in shaping our lives
