Marta Jean Carter

Mrs. Carter, of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at her home.  Marta was born on March 29, 1949 in Fayetteville NC to the late Arthur Goodrid and Martha Griffin Keddy.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, John Keddy; sister, Cheryl Nessler; brother, Wayne Keddy; niece, Candance Keddy; and grandparents,  Ruth and W. Halbert Griffin. Marta loved the mountains, gardening, and flowers.  She also enjoyed cooking and crafting, especially decorative painting on wine glasses.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 23 at 1:00 PM at Benson Funeral Services Chapel with Rev. Sherman Branch officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Graveside Services will follow at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC. 

Survivors include her husband, Mike Carter; children, Donna Linkous (David), John Young (Karen), Sheri Young Ridge, and Michele Prather (Chesley); stepdaughter, Jessica Carter Strickland (John); grandchildren, Jonathan, Kaymon, Emily, Brandon, Adam, Brooke, Nathan, Chloe, KJ, Sarah, and Casey; and great grandchildren, Colton, Bentley, and Lily.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to The American Breast Cancer Foundation.
