Linda Hayes Thompson, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 28 , 2024, at the age of 77, at Atrium Health Hospice & Palliative Care in Monroe, NC. She was surrounded by love as she peacefully transitioned into eternal rest.
Linda was born on February 18, 1947, in Rowan County, NC, to the late Durant Coolidge Hayes and Louise Sanders Smoak. Throughout her life, Linda touched the hearts of many with her kind spirit and gentle nature. She will always be remembered for her unwavering love dedication to her family.
In her leisure time, Linda found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She cherished visits to Topsail Island Beach, where she spent countless hours hunting for shells along the shore. Her creative talents shone through in her passion for crocheting and creating exquisite porcelain dolls.
Left to cherish her memory are Linda's loving husband, Lynn Edwin Thompson of Midland, NC; her children: Tonya Austin (Terry) of Midland, NC, Jeff Tibbits (Leigh Ann) of Charlotte, NC, Kim Grey (Enoch) of Charlotte, NC, Eric Thompson (Cindy) of Blacksburg, SC, and Matthew Thompson of Midland; her grandchildren: Allison Austin, Gabrielle Grey, Eric Thompson Jr., Brandon Tibbits, Olivia Grey, Benjamin Tibbits, Alexis Grey, and Katie Lynn Thompson; as well as her great-grandchildren: Deklyn Thompson and Greyson Arant.
A visitation to honor Linda's life will be held at Benson Funeral & Cremation in Mt. Holly from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Wyrick and Rev. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family after the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Atrium Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. Her legacy of love and grace will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and adored her.
In times where words may fail us in expressing our grief and sense of loss, it is also a time to remember the beauty that Linda brought into this world. May she rest in peace knowing that she was deeply cherished and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
