Leona Sherrill

Leona Rick Sherrill, 83, of Mount Holly, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2019. She was born in Gaston County on June 23, 1936, the daughter of the late Sam and Pauline Rick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benny Joe Sherrill; sons, Michael Brewer and Kenny Brewer; brother, Larry Rick; and a sister, Edith Rick. She was a member of the former Freewill Baptist Church of Belmont. Leona retired from Bi Lo where she worked as the head baker in the bakery/deli. She loved taking care of others, shopping, and trips to the mountains. She enjoyed western movies and her favorite television show was "Gun Smoke". She also enjoyed watching anything that Tom Selleck starred in. Leona was a great and strong lady whom her family loved very much.

Leona is survived by her children; Karen Brown and husband Ricky; Teri Miller and husband Terry, Penny Brewer and boyfriend Gary, Cindy Nations and fiance Chris Preslar; brothers and sisters, Clarence Rick, Lena Mae Love, and Charles Rick; 16 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, 12:00 P.M., at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services of Mount Holly with the Rev. Jerry Willard officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 - 12:00 prior to the service.
