Karen Harris Wilson

Karen Wilson, 60, of Gastonia, NC, surrounded by family, transitioned peacefully on April 14, 2022.  She was born April 4, 1962, in Gastonia, NC to the late Cicero and Margaret Harris of Lowell, NC.

Karen is survived by three children, William Wilson of Gastonia, NC, Billy Wilson of Spartanburg, SC, and Linda Wilson of Gastonia, NC; three grandchildren, Cameron Wilson, Nathan Carter, and Landon Wilson; brother, Gary Harris and wife Tisha; sister, Sharon Harris; nieces, Angela Harris and Jessica Harris (Donald Morton); great nieces, Madison Harris, Kara Ayers, and Carly Ayers; friends, Benny Buchanan; and many other extended family and friends.

Karen was kind to everyone.  She loved her family and friends, but most of all her children and grandchildren.  Karen was a phenomenal caregiver to her disabled son, Dean for forty years.

The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church, 311 E. Walnut Ave., Gastonia.  A service to celebrate the life of Karen, officiated by Rev. Mike Criswell, will follow the visitation at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Karen requested you donate to your favorite charity.

Karen was the heart of our family. She selflessly cared for her children and helped her family whenever she could. Our family will never be the same without her. Her passing has left a huge void that no one else can ever fill. Karen was a phenomenal woman. She sacrificed so much and always settled for less so that her children could have more. It is mind-blowing that she provided extraordinary care for her oldest son Dean for forty years. I sat with Karen on many occasions when she began her battle with cancer, and she never let it define her or let it deter her will to live. She was a courageous warrior against cancer and faced it head-on without fear. When it was time, she transitioned peacefully on her own terms, and with grace and dignity. I will always admire her strength and miss our random chats. I will miss spending holidays and taco nights with Karen and the family. I will miss not being able to call her on the phone to get the name of a movie or actor I can\'t think of. Karen had an amazing memory. Karen was certainly taken from us way too soon and my family and I look forward to the day when we can see her again. R.I.P Karen.
