Joyce Hester Winkler 90, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, December 13, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her family. Born November 3, 1929 in Gaston County to the late Samuel Jeffrey Hester and Zola Romines Hester, she was retired from the Caldwell Co. School System as a custodian at Gamewell Elementary School. A member of Flemings Chapel Baptist Church for over fifty years, Sunday School Teacher, and sang in the choir. Joyce loved all her family and church family, but most of all her grandsons, and was always willing to help others.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Taft "Ravon" Winkler of the home, two sons, Kevin Brown and wife Laura of Hudson, Randy Winkler also of the home, one daughter, Karin Winkler Gragg and husband Timothy, two grandsons, Matthew Adam Gragg and Samuel Taylor Gragg and wife Taylor all of Greeneville, Tennessee. A special family member, Wendy Bayless, and her daughter Paisley Raen Herbster of Stanley, NC., additional special friend John Broadbent of Lenoir and, Aiden Shoffner of Orlando,FL.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Stuart White, and Pastor David Payne officiating, the family will receive at the church from 12:00 p.m. till 1:30 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be Todd and Caleb King, Mickey and Jared Pennell, Kevin Hamilton and Danny Kincaid. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Caldwell County Hospice for their care and support.
