John Bryan Norton

August 5, 1970 — August 8, 2019

John Bryan Norton, 49, of Gastonia, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Robin Johnson Hospice House. He was born in Charlotte, NC, the son of Johnny M. Norton and Terry Dettmar. John was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Gastonia, and loved to hike and fish. He was a Boy Scout leader and was the first Boy Scout in Christ United Methodist Church's Troop #503, to become an Eagle Scout.

In addition to his parents, John is survived by his stepmother, Julia Norton; wife, Janie Thompson Norton; children, Brylyn D. Norton, and Sawyer S. Norton; sister and brother-in-law, Jennifer Norton White and Steve; brother, Sherman M. Norton; favorite uncle, Eddie Dettmar; and best friend and adopted grandfather, Mr. Bill Pajaro.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019, 3:00 P.M., at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services, Mount Holly, with Pastor Noel Sweezy officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the memorial service from 2:00 - 3:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to: The Boy Scouts of America, Piedmont Counsel, 1222 E. Franklin Boulevard, Gastonia, NC 28054.
