John Bernard Griffo

On Monday, November 28, 2022 John B. Griffo passed away peacefully at the age of
87.
John B. Griffo was born to Charles and Angelina Griffo, in Rochester NY, on
February 16, 1935. Ironically, out of the 10 children born in his family, he was the 9th
child born and the 9th one to pass away.
Predeceased by the Mother of his 3 children Evelyn Griffo, loving companion of 40
years Dorothy Huther, son Mark Griffo, brothers, Joseph Griffo, Michael Griffo,
Frank Griffo, Sam Griffo, and Thomas Griffo; sisters, Mary Ceraci, Josephine
Cacciata and Sarah Updike.
He is survived by his children, Loretta Eckerson (Paul), John C. Griffo (Mary);
Brother, James Griffo; 7 Grandchildren, Nicholas Agnello (Amanda), Jessica Agnello,
Emily Eckerson, Cody Eckerson, Micah Griffo (Chelsea), Hannah Meath (Daniel),
and Benjamin Griffo (Shanna); 11 beautiful great-grandchildren; many nieces,
nephews, & cousins; and several special friends he met throughout his journey
through life.
He was a Painting Contractor, who owned his own business, with several other talents
and professions. He served as a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of
Rochester in NY for many years. He loved playing golf, watching horse races (losing
more bets than he won haha), cooking and feeding everyone til they were full, telling
stories to anyone who would listen, and most importantly spending time with family
and friends. He made a big transition and moved down to NC from NY this past
summer so that he could be closer to his family. In the short 6 months that he lived in
NC, he met several welcoming, kind and caring friends that treated him like family at
Terra Bella Cramer Mountain Senior Living community, where he lived and became
their volunteer door greeter. If you knew John, you knew he was a STRONG,
friendly, hardworking, intelligent, determined, honest, patient, loving, kind-hearted
man who could make people laugh til they cried and would help anyone in need
without question. He will be dearly missed by many but forever in our hearts and
thoughts.
Visitation will be held at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services at 101 Oak Grove St.,
Mt. Holly, NC 28120 on December 17th at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00 noon
