John Edward Elting, age 79, passed away on December 19, 2025. He was born on April 3, 1946, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
John lived a life defined by dedication, quiet strength, and deep love for his family. He was known for his steady presence, his willingness to help others, and the care he showed to those around him. To know John was to know someone dependable, thoughtful, and sincere. Throughout his life, he valued hard work, integrity, and loyalty, and he took great pride in the life he built and the relationships he nurtured.
John proudly served in the United States Army, and his service to his country will be honored with military honors during his funeral.
Above all, John was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his son Robert Elting and wife Jennifer; son Phillip Elting and wife Brooke; daughter Natalie Elting; and daughter Lisa Jordan and husband Mark, as well as nine beloved grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Marshall Elting, Phil Elting, and James Elting, and by his sister Carol Richardson.
John’s wisdom, kindness, and quiet humor will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. His memory will live on through the stories shared, the lessons passed down, and the love he gave so freely.
A celebration of John’s life will be held on December 30, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 300 S .Main St., Mount Holly, North Carolina with the Rev. Jeff Allen officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages honoring John’s memory through a donation to organizations that support veterans and military families, causes that were important to him. Suggested charities include Wounded Warrior Project, Team Red, White & Blue, and Hire Heroes USA.
