John William Clubb, Sr., 86, of Gastonia, NC, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2014, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

Born July 31, 1927, a native of Burke County, NC, he was the son of the late Alfred Loranzy and Fannie Ellen Bean Clubb. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired as Vice President of Sales for Raytex Chemical Corporation. He dearly loved his community and was passionately dedicated to helping others, remaining active in civic and charitable causes his entire life. He was an active member of Bethlehem Church, South Campus, Gastonia. He loved his church so very much. To stay active, he enjoyed helping his brother George, in his company, Gastex LLC.

He was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge #369, York Rite, Oasis Temple, Gaston County Shrine Club, Moose International, and the Improved Order of Red Men. In addition, he was a member of the American Legion, the American Association of Chemists and Colorists, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, among others. He helped save many lives as a proud early member of the Gaston County Rescue Squad/Lifesaving Crew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James A. Clubb, Sr., and sisters Louise Clubb Lewis, and Margaret Clubb Fowler. He is survived by his children, Trudy Clubb Bates and husband James of Dallas, NC, Angela Clubb Jolley and fiancAC. Michael Joy of Mooresville, NC, and John William Clubb, Jr. of Gastonia; brothers Floyd C. Clubb, Sr., and wife Brenda of Gastonia, George M. Clubb, Sr., and wife Phyllis of Dallas, NC, Thomas E. "Gene" Clubb of Gastonia and Brenda Bean of Denver, NC. In addition, he is survived by grandchildren Brooke Jolley Harris and husband Troy of Davidson, Shannon Clubb of Gastonia, Lindsey Clubb Lail and husband Ernie of Kings Mountain, Britt Bates and fiancAC.e Kalyn Diaz and daughter Krystal of Boynton Beach , FL. Great grandchildren include Finley and Madison Harris, Aubrey Lail, and Braesyn Bates. He is also survived by many loving, caring nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by everyone and his absence will leave a void in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched with his trademark stories. He had many hobbies; among his favorites were photography, bronzing precious heirlooms, Nascar racing, and he loved to dance.

A Memorial service to celebrate John's life will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Bethlehem Church, South campus, 3100 Bethlehem Church St. Gastonia with Rev. Dickie Spargo and Rev. Frank Hoyle officiating. The family will receive friends at 1:00PM with service to follow at 2:00PM. Interment will follow service at the Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont, NC with Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
