Janet Lynn Curns

February 9, 1954 — February 20, 2026

Mt. Holly

Janet Lynn Curns, a selfless and loving mother, cherished Nana, devoted sister and aunt, and retired nurse, passed away surrounded by love on February 20th, 2026 at the age of 72. Born in Michigan and later making her home in Mount Holly, North Carolina, Janet dedicated her life to caring for others, both in her profession and in her family. Known lovingly as “Nana,” her greatest pride and joy were her beloved grandchildren, Harper Janet and Parker Marie, who brought immeasurable light and happiness to her life.

Janet was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Rowe and her father, Lee Rowe. Her brother in-law, Rev. David Spaulding. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Curns of Charlotte and Billie Jeanne Carter and husband Matt of Charlotte, her twin sister, Jeanne Spaulding and her older sister, Nancy Coldiron and husband Jim, and several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Janet lived a life defined by her deep compassion and unwavering commitment to caring for others. She devoted much of her nursing career to serving as Director of Nursing at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home, where she discovered a special calling in caring for the elderly. After moving to Mount Holly, she continued that calling through her work in hospice care, extending comfort and compassion to families during their most tender moments.

Outside of her profession, Janet found joy in cross-stitching, coloring, watching Hallmark movies, and walking her beloved dog, Tootsie, at “her park.” Most of all, she treasured any moment spent gathered with her family. Wherever she went and in all she pursued, Janet carried love, laughter, and steadfast dedication, leaving a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.

For more than twenty years, Janet courageously battled breast cancer, never allowing the disease to define her. Instead, she chose to define it, turning her journey into a source of strength and encouragement for others. She found deep purpose in praying for and supporting women facing the same diagnosis: offering comfort, wisdom, and hope through every stage of treatment. Even as she fought her own battle each day, she worked tirelessly to spread education and uplift those around her. Janet faced cancer with fierce determination and unwavering faith…always on her terms.
