James "Allen" Wingate

James "Allen" Wingate, 82, of Charlotte passed away July 16, 2020 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.  He was born on October 14, 1937 to the late Ralph "Bub" and Lillian Chapman Wingate.  He is also preceded in death by his sister, Bobby Jean Goodwin.  Allen was in the Air National Guard.  He was a long time member of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church in Charlotte where he was part of the Boy Scouts and also a choir member.  He was past president of the West Meck Optimist Club.  Some of his hobbies included fishing (fresh water and saltwater), bowling, golfing, and gardening.  Allen was known as a "jokester." He always had a beautiful garden and he was known as a great BBQ'er and Smoker.  He loved to cook.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Laura Evans Wingate; daughters, Tamara W. Ellis, Deborah Wingate, Margaret Wagner and husband Jeffrey, and Amy Wingate; 12 grandchildren, Ashley, Dylan, Katherine, Meghan, Lauren, Steven, Christopher, Matthew, Evan, Sydney, Amanda, and Ryan; and 8 great grandchildren, Nadia, Lydia, Kyndall, Novaleigh, Rhett. Hunter, Zoey, and Sawyer.

The family will hold a private Celebration of Life service.
