James Eric Hughes "Eric"

James Eric Hughes, 53, of Gastonia, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at CaroMont Regional Healthcare. He was born in Maiden on February 9, 1967, the son of James "Troy" and Connie Hughes. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Hollifield. Eric was a member of Finish Line Christian Center in Mount Holly, and founded the Woodturner's Association in Hickory. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, painting, woodturning, and especially playing corn hole. Eric was a very loving person with a big heart who could carry on a conversation with a stranger. He will be remembered as someone who always made you smile.

In addition to his parents, Eric is survived by his wife of eleven years, Machelle Hughes; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Toni Hughes; daughters and sons-in-law, Kristen and Josh Godwin, Kaitlin and Clayton Henize; daughter, Karrie Hughes; sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Jason Dillingham; brother and sister-in-law, Kent and Debbie Hollifield; brother, Keith Hollifield; grandchildren, Laina Martin, Brinley Hughes, Annie Godwin, Logan Henize, Ellie Henize; cousin, John Hicks; niece, Rachel Dillingham; nephew, Jacob Dillingham; several aunts; and canine companion, Daisy Mae Hughes.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services of Mount Holy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020, 2:00 PM, at Finish Line Christian Center, 108 N. Main Street, Mount Holly, with Rev. Shannon Williams officiating.
