Uncle Harold was a mythic figure of my childhood. Many stories about him were told to my brother and me by our father (Harold's younger brother Philip). Growing up we would occasionally see him during trips from Michigan to North Carolina, and he was always friendly and quick with a joke. As an adult I made it a point to try to visit him whenever business travel found me in North Carolina (for several years quite often, as it happened). This is the image of him that comes readily to mind: Harold with a grin and a sparkle in his eye right before he told me the latest joke he'd heard.
I loved Uncle Harold and will miss him greatly.

Harold was a dear uncle to me. On just about every occasion I was around him we shared a good laugh, he had a way of making me feel like we were both in on some inside joke. He was always kind and genuinely interested in my life, well being and pursuits, sometimes asking me about details I had no idea he was aware of. I will remember him fondly as a gentle, caring man who never hesitated to show me and my family his warmth, wit and support.
