George Philip Bonham, affectionately known as "Phil," passed away on October 18, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. Born to Susan Thorpe Bonham and the late George Griffith Bonham on July 12, 1967, in Charlottesville, Virginia, Phil lived a life dedicated to both public service and family, leaving an everlasting mark on the community he served.
As a devoted member of the Lowell City Council, Phil exemplified leadership and commitment to his constituents. He was known for his passion for civic engagement, advocating for initiatives that improved the lives of those around him. His love for the outdoors was evident through his avid enjoyment of golf and cherished moments spent at the beach with family, where he found joy and solace. Phil found great joy in coaching his children’s sports teams and was happiest when spending time with his family at Seabrook Island. A devoted member of Flint Groves Baptist Church in Gastonia, his faith was a guiding presence in his life. Phil cherished summers spent at his grandparents’ home on Lake Nuangola, Pennsylvania, where he created many lifelong memories. He also loved watching cooking shows and delighted in preparing special meals for his family during the holidays, filling their home with warmth, laughter, and love.
In addition to his mother, Phil is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Lindsay Bonham; children, Jackson Bonham, Emersyn Bonham, Ellisyn Bonham, and Joshua Cudd (Kindall), as well as Rebecca Fitts (Calvin), Turner Bonham (Tori), and Katherine Bonham; grandson, Grayson; sisters, Beth Bonham Taylerson (Chris) and John Bonham (Laralynn); along with several nieces and nephews; and many friends who will remember him fondly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Flint Groves Baptist Church in Gastonia, NC, on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 3:30 PM. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 PM prior to the service. This gathering will honor Phil's life and contributions, bringing family and friends together to reflect on the cherished memories and the impact he made in the lives of many.
George Philip Bonham will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
