Dear Barbara,

I am heartbroken over the passing of Erv. I just learned of it from Joe Brogan's brother Bill. Erv and Joe were an outstanding team and the go to team for patrolling the Augusta, Ga downtown area as members of the 14oth MP Company. They were already assigned to the 140th when I returned from my first assignment in Korea in 1964 and was given command of the company. As a relatively inexperienced Lieutenant I fortunately learned quickly that Erv was a leader among the company enlisted MPs as was Joe and I literally relied of Erv to keep me from making boneheaded mistakes with the troops. My tenure as commanding officer of the 140th MP Company was a success largely because of the relationship I had with Erv and his best buddy Joe. I cherish the memories of those days in the mid '60s as well as the Reunion of the 140th you and Erv hosted several years ago. Regrettably that is the last time I got to be with Erv and Joe, both gone now. May God's grace and the many memories you and Erv made over a lifetime sustain you Barbara during your bereavement and all your days to come.
