Eleanor Hart Montgomery

Eleanor Hart McLaughlin Montgomery, affectionately known as "Nell," passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Stanley, North Carolina, at the age of 78. A lifelong North Carolinian, Nell was born on May 14, 1947, in Statesville to Eleanor Steele Tomlin McLaughlin and Frank R. McLaughlin Sr.

Nell's life was marked by warmth, kindness, and a loving spirit that touched all who knew her. She never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome in her company. In 1965, she married her beloved husband, H. Tony Montgomery, and together they built a family that was her greatest joy. She is survived by her two devoted sons Christopher Montgomery (Patricia), granddaughter Lauren, and Matthew Montgomery and grandson Brogan. Nell is also survived by her brother, Frank R. McLaughlin Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband Tony, her parents, and her sister, Mary Alice McLaughlin Young.

Nell had a true passion for crafting-her hands were rarely still, busy with needlepoint, sewing, and elaborate crafts. Decorating for the changing seasons, especially at Christmas, brought her immense joy, and her home was always filled with handmade decorations and the scent of her famous baked treats and candies. Time spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren, was always treasured, and her love for animals was evident to all.

Nell's warmth and fun spirit will be deeply missed by her family and friends. In remembering her, we celebrate a life filled with love, creativity, and kindness.
