Dewey Christopher Childers

February 20, 1927 — January 18, 2017

Dewey Christopher Childers, 89, of York passed away on January 18, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Childers was born in York, SC on February 20, 1927 to the late Dewey Forrest Childers and Emma Lee White Childers. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Pete Childers and a sister Carolyn Gambrell. Dewey was a U.S. Navy Veteran, retiring after 21 years of service and was a member of First Wesleyan Church of York. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years Janet Ramsey Childers; Children, Chris Childers (Leeann) of Rock Hill, David Childers (Marsha) of York and Paula Winesburg (Jeff) of Hartwell, Ga.; Sister, Clarice Pearson of Mt. Pleasant, SC;  5 grandchildren, Briana, Krystle (Chris), Kyle (Sierra), Lindsey, Luc (Katherine) and also a great grandchild Bradyn. Services to celebrate Mr. Childers life will be held at 3:00PM Saturday, January 21 at First Wesleyan Church, 1830 York Hwy, York, SC with Rev. Todd Reynolds and Rev. Curtis Williams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Graveside services with Military Honors will be Private. In lieu of flowers please make memorials to one of the following: First Wesleyan Church, 1830 York Hwy, York, SC 29745 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Agape Hospice, 1326 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
