Charles "Hank" Mace, 64, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 14, 2023.
He was born on Dec. 9, 1958, in Charleston, W.V., to the late Kenneth and Ada Mace. Hank moved to Charlotte in 1972 with his family, where he attended West Mecklenburg High School. Shortly after graduating in 1977, he married his high school sweetheart, Lisa. They had two daughters whom he was extremely proud of.
Hank worked for 36 years at UPS, serving as a skilled diesel mechanic until his well-deserved retirement. Throughout his tenure, he made many lifelong friends. Hank's love for automobiles, motorcycles, and all things mechanical was renowned, as he possessed an uncanny ability to fix almost anything. Yet, beyond his reputation as a mechanical genius, he found enjoyment in hanging out in his garage, where his friends would often visit. He also had a passion for motocross and raced for many years; however, above all, he loved Jesus and his family.
Hank will be remembered for his humor, compassion, humility, and big heart. He would help anyone, including those he didn't even know.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lisa Mace; two daughters, Lindsey Avant and husband, Kevin, of Charlotte, N.C., and Kelsey Mace of Austin, Texas; and granddaughter, Everly Avant (who was the apple of his eye). He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Not to be forgotten are his beloved pets, who provided him with unconditional love.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Mace; his mother, Ada Mace; and his sister, Paula Sanders.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023, at Metrolina Shrine Club (5930 Brookshire Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28216).
