Carol "Jeanie" Hockersmith

April 16, 1954 — October 31, 2023

Charlotte

Carol "Jeanie" Hockersmith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones at Atrium Health Pineville in Charlotte, NC. She was born on April 16, 1954, in Charlotte, NC, to proud parents Gwyn and Carolyn Daniel.

Jeanie was a beacon of joy and happiness throughout her life. Always wearing a smile on her face, she had an incredible zest for life that was truly contagious. Known for her love of reading and baking, Jeanie's donuts were renowned far and wide. She not only brought joy to her own family but also to the entire neighborhood as the go-to mom who always had a comforting word or a delicious treat ready for anyone in need.

One of Jeanie's greatest passions was gardening. With an exceptionally green thumb, she would transform any patch of soil into a vibrant oasis. Her love for nature extended beyond just flowers and plants; she had a special fondness for hummingbirds and dragonflies. To Jeanie, they represented the beauty and delicate balance of life – something she cherished and appreciated deeply.

The sights and sounds of nature held a special place in Jeanie's heart. Whether it was the serene waves crashing against the shoreline or the majestic mountains reaching towards the heavens, she found solace in the beauty that surrounded her. The beach and mountains were more than just destinations for Jeanie; they were her sanctuaries where she could rejuvenate her soul.

Music also played an important role in Jeanie's life. She had an enduring love for the music of the 60s, which transported her back to a time filled with hope, dreams, and freedom. The melodies would resonate within her heart as she danced around the house with pure bliss.

Jeanie's warm spirit touched the lives of all who knew her. She was the heart and soul of her family, and her absence will be deeply felt. Jeanie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Carmen Hockersmith, who stood by her side through thick and thin, sharing an unbreakable bond of love and devotion.

In addition to her husband, Jeanie is survived by her children, Daniel Hockersmith and his wife Lauren, Cora St. Clair and her fiancé Jeffrey Moss, April Dawn Pina and her fiancé Jeffrey Crane, Lisa Macario, as well as her brother Freddy Daniel and his wife Rhonda. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Cathy Jean Hockersmith and sisters Cathy Lynn Daniel and D.D. Daniel, and a brother Arthur Daniel.

Jeanie's legacy lives on through the lives of her eight adoring grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She took great pride in watching them grow and spread their wings, always offering words of wisdom and encouragement along the way.

A memorial gathering to celebrate Jeanie's remarkable life will be held on November 11, 2023, at Benson Funeral & Cremation located at 101 Oak Grove St., Mt. Holly, NC 28120. The reminiscing of cherished memories will commence at 2:00 PM and conclude at 4:00 PM.

Jeanie's passing leaves a void in our lives that can never be filled. However, the memories we hold dear will remain etched in our hearts forever. Her spirit will continue to guide us through life's challenges, reminding us to embrace every moment with love and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jeanie's honor to Tri County Animal Rescue, 3326 Al Hager Ln, Iron Station, NC 28080, a charity close to her heart.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Jeanie, let us remember her for the vibrant light she brought into our world. May she find eternal peace as she joins the hummingbirds and dragonflies, dancing amidst the beauty of nature she cherished so deeply.
