Altha "Al" Louise Harris

Altha “Al” Louise Belk Harris, 94, of Gastonia passed away July 8, 2017 at Alexandria Place.  She was born in Union County on July 27, 1922 to the late Charles and Margareta Belk.  She was preceded in death by her husband, George Harris; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.

Al was an avid sports fan of all kinds. In her early twenties, she played first base on a travel softball team.  Al later worked for Homelite retiring after 25 years of service.  She was also a self-employed daycare operator for 10 years.  She loved the outdoors particularly working in the yard with her flowers. She enjoyed trips to the beach with her husband and also loved to venture out to Filbert and Peaches, was an avid coffee drinker and loved her burnt popcorn.  Al was always giving of herself particularly to her children and grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all she left behind.

Al is survived by her sons, Timmy Harris and wife Lisa, and Leroy “Moe” Harris and wife Margie; sister, Hattie “Sid” Sparks and husband Johnny; Grandchildren, Hope and Zach Harris, Jeanette Harris Perry and Johnny Harris; and 4 Great Grandchildren.

Services to celebrate Altha’s life will be held privately.
