Allen  Douglass, age 80, slipped peacefully into eternity on January 10, 2024. He was born in Rexburg, Idaho, February 4, 1943, the youngest of five children to his parents, Leland and Ruby Douglass, of Tetonia, Idaho. As a teenager, Allen worked as a farmhand for his brother-in-law, Herb Swanson, in George, Washington before enlisting in the US Navy. While on leave he met Frances Ring . They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They  spent two years in San Diego before moving back to Wenatchee,  WA where they  raised their three children. Allen worked for many years at the ALCOA aluminum plant near Wenatchee, retiring after a back injury.
He liked riding his Yamaha motorcycle in his earlier years, camping with the family and friends, fishing with his children, and talking cars. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA for many years and made many friends there. A hobby of his was building radio control planes which he loved doing but confessed that he couldn’t afford to keep landing them!
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and served  faithfully in various callings.
Allen had a dry sense of humor which brought chuckles from many. He enjoyed making people happy and engaging in conversations with just about anyone including the sample ladies at Costco.
He had the unlucky trait of being somewhat accident- prone, resulting in unusual circumstances that amused his family to no end.
He enjoyed telling his favorite memories so much that everyone already knew them but let him tell them anyway.
He loved his family and was proud of the accomplishments of his children. If anyone was ever caught in an unfortunate situation and needed help, he was always there to assist them. He was good with mechanical things and kept the cars running probably way beyond their normal life span. He could fix just about anything. It may have looked a little strange afterwards but it worked.
He was preceded in death by his parents;  sisters, Lois Hansen and Donna Burnside; brothers, Wayne and Carroll; brother-law, Herb Swanson; sister-in-law, Juanita Ellen; and a very special uncle and aunt, Keith and Thurza Christensen, formerly of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He is survived by his wife; children, Steven and Melanie, of Gastonia NC, and Christopher (Jessica) of Seattle, WA.; sister, Bonnie Swanson of Portland, OR.; five grandchildren; and a special sister-in-law, Bobbi Catalán, of Utah.
At his request there will be no funeral services. Cremation will be done by Benson Funeral & Cremation Services of Mt. Holly. NC.
In remembrance of Allen, please feel inspired to do something nice for someone and spread some good will.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to Robin Johnson Hospice for their compassionate and attentive care of Allen the last few weeks of his life.  The sweet  nurses and others that assisted him were the best.
