James Lanier

James “Mike” Lanier, 57, of Belmont passed away March 16, 2021 at his residence. Mike was born in Gaston County on April 14, 1963 to Nell Jean Lanier and the late James Reid Lanier. He is also preceded in death by his brother Bryan Cephus Lanier and brother-in-law Roger Driggers.

Mike’s career included being in sales with both Pepsi Cola and Little Debbie Snacks. He was an avid lover of hunting, fishing, the mountains and also golfing. He truly loved his family, especially his children, grandchildren and his many friends. Mike was loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly. In addition to his mother Mike is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Denise Elrod Lanier. Children Traci Lanier Calvelli (Keith) and James Eric Lanier (Lindsey). Sister Gloria “Sissy” Driggers and five wonderful grandchildren, Austin, Henry, John-John, Libby and Carson. The Family would like to thank all of Mike’s special and caring friends throughout his sickness and struggles.

Memorial services to celebrate Mike’s life will be at 1:00 PM Monday March 22 at Benson Funeral & Cremation Services in Mt. Holly with Reverend Kevin Ford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Novant Health Hospice, PO Box 33233-3549.

Mike was a close friend of mine growing up in Lucia, he was a good down to earth country guy, that will be truly missed, R.I.P Mike

I worked with Mike at Pepsi in Cherryville. He always had a smile and was great at keeping us all laughing, no matter what was going on. He was a hard worker and a good friend. He will be missed.
