Nancy Josephine Saavedra, 90, of Stanley, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 in Gastonia. She was born on October 20, 1928 in Wood County, Ohio, the daughter of the late George Walter Norton and Lenna Rummell Norton. Nancy was an avid equestrian and raised show horses. She would often show her horses at competitions and has won several awards. She was a model in the 1940's and 1950's and worked with Paramount Pictures. In 1947 she participated in, and won, The Press' "Favorite Brunette" contest. J. Maxwell Joice with Paramount stated, "we have a young lady with looks, poise and personality, who will, I know, fittingly represent Cleveland, The Press, and Paramount Pictures".
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Chuck Guenther, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Puccio and fiance JR White, and Terri Streck; grandchildren, Sheri Arant, Rebecca Novae, Lisa Johnston and husband John, Megan Thompson and wife Laura, Jesse Quijano and wife Lisa, and Cheyenne Putnum; great grandchildren, Christian Ross, Ashley Novae, Tyler Novae, Corey Novae, Frank Winstead, Cody Arant, Amanda Arant, Erika Smith, Cody Putnam, Jacob Putnam, Erica Allen, Kara Cosio-Lopez and husband Jose, Anthony Quijano, and Riley Quijano; great-great grandchildren, Shane Winstead, Evan Hill, Carlee Hill, Aubrey Hill, Aidyn Garcia, Natalyn Allen, Weston Allen, Tommy Golden, and Braeden Golden; cousins, John Norton Rampe, Martha Whitbeck, and Liz Edmonds; her much loved ex-husband, Cande Saavedra; and dearest friend, Nancy Palmer and husband Ed.
A Memorial Service will be held privately.
